Postmodernist film - Postmodernist film attempts to subvert the mainstream conventions of narrative structure and characterization and tests the audience's suspension of disbelief.

The Lego Movie fits in with a postmodernist film as it has a heroin as a male and one of the strongest characters as a female. It challenges society which doesn't really happen in mainstream films.

The lego movie appeals to kids who played with lego through the characters as the characters are fun, relatable and appealing to the children. The narrative follows a character called emmet, who is mistaken as the special, even though he is helpless he stills gives it his all. The settings are very fun in the lego movie and can inspire children who play with lego to build their own crazy cities. One of the main themes in the lego movie is

Entertainment:

Offers distraction from the world

Personal identity:

Helps us consider who we are; what ideas and values we identify with

Relationships:

We find things we can share and discuss with others

Information:

New information we want to know or take pleasure in knowing
The main poster uses all of these in it. The actual game offers the distraction from the real world, the personal identity comes in with the characters you play as, the relationships come in with the fact it is a multiplayer game and so you play it with someone else and talk about it

TEASERS POSTERS

They released over 20 teaser posters to pull in the target audience. the target audience were pulled in through the people they posted pictures of due to the fact that they are all past characters.

THEATRICAL POSTERS

Stereotypes are good in films as in action films if you have a big muscular man as the hero it is a good role model for young boys. The same can be said for girls

In the lego movie, the directors revert gender stereotypes.

Lego movie posters use stereotypes in all there posters. In the Lord Business poster they portray him as angry and he is in all red. Red connotes to anger and this is why he is the main villain. This appeals to the target audience as he is a classic villain and everyone loves a hero/villain fight as it is a story line everyone can relate to

In the Wildstyle poster they portray her as a emo and mysterious character however she has kind loving features showing she is also a loving stereotypical hollywood girl. In usual action films the woman is seen as weak and feeble but in this she is shown as strong and a good rolemodel for women.

Explain how an effective media campaign would exploit a variety of media platforms. (Use online, print & audio-visual Media forms).
  • Use The Lego Movie to support your answer.

The lego movie had a very successful media campaign as they did this right before a big TV final of dancing on ice and made it all of lego. This meant all the people watching the final would see the lego movie adverts. Their posters also showed the characters inside the film and it meant some of the people in the posters would appeal to people, therefore making them want to watch it. They went onto social media and played ads, with parts of the film that would appeal to the average social media user, and made them pop-up. This resulted in people sending the ad to their fans and spreading awareness without them knowing.

Mise-en-scene inside my music videos

In uptown funk, the use of mise-en-scene is very typical of the genre. The dancers and characters inside the music video can be seen wearing bright, pastel coloured clothing. The colours are bright, almost like the song is, it has a nice and bright feeling to it, as the colours are VERY saturated, and so its very typical and appropriate of the genre. In Beyonce if i were a boy, the use of mise-en-scene is very different in comparison to uptown funk. the whole video is shot in black and white, and so we don't see the colours of the clothing, making them very desaturated. This shows the pain of Beyonce, and shows her as emotionless as she has lost all feeling, due to her pain. And so even though the mise-en-scene isn't appropriate to the genre that Beyonce is famous for, it is still typical for the actual song.

  1. Wk1: Good understanding of regulation & some of Postmodernism

Wk2: Missing the teen part of the audience

Wk3: Needs more detail but a basic overview. Think about what made the TV campaign so successful
